Build Your Own Drum
Building your own drum for ceremonial use is the best way to
bring one into your life. It has your energy from the beginning.
And it’s fun.
Choose either a round or octagonal frame, nominal dimension
15 inch by 2 ½. Head and lacing is typically elk.
The frames are poplar, a genus of cottonwood, or if requested,
western cedar. Each block is double-pinned for added strength.
Allow two weeks from the time the materials deposit
is made to build your drum.
Round frames are constructed with 28 blocks, each
pinned twice with oak dowel. Octagonal frames are
also double-pinned.
I buy whole hides and cut the heads and lacing myself.
If you prefer a different style hand drum, hide, or
dimension, please send a note for a quote.
